Covance was looking to reduce costs in its assembly operation. The company needed to incorporate a purchasing program with approved vendors and establish an inventory system to maintain both raw material and finished good levels. More...
About Covance
One of the world's largest and most comprehensive drug development services companies offering drug development solutions from preclinical through commercialization.
Why Goodwill
A customer of Goodwill for more than 11 years, Covance utilizes Goodwill to provide kitting and subassembly of medical supplies. Goodwill provides assembly, packaging, warehousing and shipping of more than 5.5 million items per year.
How the partnership started
Covance was exposed to Goodwill's capabilities through its participation in an outside focus group. The company had a short-term assembly need, and Goodwill's solutions exceeded Covance's expectations. Eleven years later, the relationship continues to grow.
Benefits Covance achieved
Over the years, Goodwill has been able to assist Covance in improving price over its previous assembly charges. More recently because of a recall from the original manufacturer, Goodwill, utilizing its state-of-the-art inventory management system, was able to easily and quickly locate recalled needles that were already placed in packages and pull them from production. Without such a system in place, production time and money would have been lost.
"Covance's business continues to grow, and Goodwill has been able to meet our demands without fail. Goodwill has proven to be a reliable source for the labor that we don't necessarily have the people for, and they're also able to provide that to us at a very good cost."
Don Snyder, Senior Manager Global Kit Production, Covance

About EHOB
EHOB, Inc. was founded in 1985 with a special interest in soft tissue research, education and product development. Today it's a leading manufacturer of pressure ulcer prevention products, known the world over as WAFFLE® brand products.
Why Goodwill
From the start, EHOB was very pleased with the quality and fast turn-around service that Goodwill offered. Outsourcing to Goodwill, EHOB freed up sufficient floor space to install new product lines in its facility.
How the partnership started
Having visited the Commercial Services facility many years before, and being impressed with the overall operation then, EHOB approached Goodwill in July 2008 to help with its production needs. The production work has blossomed and is now averaging 6,000 mattresses and 3,000 cushions per week.
Benefits EHOB achieved
Efficiency improved on EHOB's own production floor by outsourcing part of its production process to Goodwill.
"I've been impressed with the quality I’ve been able to see. It goes deep into the training Goodwill provides to its people on a day-to-day basis. We feel Goodwill is a good business partner for a number of different reasons – commitment to service, quality and training are three that come to mind.
